Self Portrait (Perspective A)

This piece was made using a wax sculpture of myself as a cast. I chose to use a statue of myself to turn into brass because not many of my pieces are depictions of me and I wanted to change that.

The Brass Spider was the first brass sculpture I made, so it was an experiment figuring out the steps and process to make it. Sculpting it from wax and watching as it takes a metal shape was quite the feeling.

The lock and key were an experiment with wax to create two everyday items. I wanted these two items to be connected to one another, and what better pair than a lock and a key.

The Cactus was a commission inspired by the Southwest, with the commissioner asking specifically for the item to be both a foot in height as well as based on their favorite cactus. The reason behind the name was that the first idea was that the cactus would be covered in spines. The idea was scrapped in the end, with a replacement being small flowers placed on top of each of the cactus arms, thus it was a “Cactus With No Glochids.”

These small trees were a commission and used by the client as gifts for friends during the holidays. Each tree was meant to be unique whether it was the size, number of branches, or the branch positions, but all the trees had one thing in common; the single leaf that they each held.

The leaf was made using a patterned press, and rolling a piece of metal folded in half and cut in a curve. After being rolled, the metal was split open to make a good leaf shape, which is now being held by a copper stem.

The enemy territory sculpture was made to be a showcase for my gaming models. It is intended to help them stand out against the orange and black background as well as add some perspective and story to where they stand.

Making The Hanged Man was something I enjoyed, with everything coming together the way I wanted where it could have gone wrong because of the delicate nature of the smaller pieces. The Hanged Man was meant to be something abstract, but easily interpretable by those viewing it.

The sunlight sculpture was an experiment to make a landscape out of scrap that was lying around, trying to turn the many discarded pieces into something beautiful.

The sunken ship was an experiment in making a “scene in action” as a sculpture. While the tentacles were easy to make, it took more time than expected to make the ship, as well as position it with the tentacles to make a scene full of action.

The Beast was a sculpture experiment between 2D and 3D, with the goal being something that was flat yet still popped out (literally) to the viewer.

Wax

6”x3”x3”
This wax sculpture started as only a dead tree, with a gaping hole in its trunk and barren roots and branches. It was too barren for my liking so I added two details to the dead tree: a small shriveled leaf on one of its branches and a small black bird who watches over it.

This drawing was made to test out my ability to draw a perspective piece as well as to try and accurately sketch the proportions of that perspective.

This drawing was made to exercise my ability to draw still life pieces. The light source used to cast the shadows of the drinks and pens was sunlight from a window during a cloudy day.

Digital

This sketch was an exercise at drawing portraits of others, as well as to take a try at digital drawing. The piece was done using a Wacom tablet.

When making the earrings the goals I had for them were that they were to be both simple and eye-catching. They were simple to make being made of loops and twists, and if you are reading this, that means they were eye-catching too, meaning both goals were met.

The cuff was a little bit of an experiment, I wanted to see what it would be like if I added an art deco-esc pattern to metal, and I think it came out well.

The pendant was made with the theme of three in mind, three differently triangles of three different colors appearing in three different ways. A nice trio of attributes including the three sided shape.
